NEP Holdings (M) Bhd, the country's leading distributor of water filter systems, is set to revolutionise the local drinking water industry, with the launch of its Diamond Home Spring Water system that offers fresh mineral water direct to consumers from the tap at a minimal fee.
From as low as RM2 per day, consumers can enjoy unlimited usage of mineral water either at home or commercial places including offices, factories and restaurants.
"The machine is (provided) free, but consumers will have to pay a minimal fee for the service.
However, they need not have to think about maintenance as this will be taken care of by us for up to three years," group president Michael Lim told a media conference at the launch of the new system in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
The Diamond mineral water is a result of purifying tap water with the company's latest
Diamond Home Spring Water technology. It not only cleans and filters tap water, but also uses specially produced bio-ceramic beads to release precious minerals to make water as clean and healthy as natural mineral water.
To stay true to its vision of providing the best quality water, Lim said NEP Holdings will offer
customers the benefits of good clean and healthy quality water without them having to invest in the water filter system.
With the availability of the Diamond Home Spring Water plan, the era of having to buy water filter systems for cleaner water consumption has ended, he added.
"This change in business direction means NEP Holdings no longer sells water filter systems, but is focused on providing a service to consumers and that is, offering the luxury of having unlimited mineral water from the tap at their convenience for a minimal fee."
"However, we would still provide after sales service to our existing customers who are using our water filter products," he said. With the launch of the new system, the company expects its customer base in East Asia, including Southeast Asia to increase from 600,000 to 2 million by 2012. Its local manufacturing plant has the capacity to produce 300,000 units of the system.
To service the anticipated increase in its customers, Lim said the company expects to rope in an additional of 3,000 dealers to strengthen its current network of 2,500 dealers. The company also plans to expand its regional sales presence to include Thailand, the Philippines and
Indonesia. Currently, it is present in Singapore, Taiwan, China and Hong Kong. Lim said NEP Holdings has put aside some RM10 million for its promotional campaign, which include commercial advertisement, to be spent over the next six months.
"Of this, half will be allocated for promotions targeted at Bumiputeras," he said. While home owners are primarily the company's major buyers of its water filter system, Lim said it sees
potential in untapped segments of the drinking water market such as commercial complexes, restaurants, factories and offices.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 (Bernama) -- NEP Holdings (M) Bhd is changing its business direction in order to capture a bigger market with its latest Diamond Home Spring Water System.
Group president Michael Lim said with the new business plan, the company aimed to increase its customer base to two million households from the current 600,000 by 2012.

"The filters are provided for free and fully maintained for three years. Consumers do not need to worry about after-sale service and maintenance as these will be provided by NEP," Lim said.
With the product, NEP is introducing its latest technology that is able to convert tap water into mineral water.
"This technology was developed by us working with scientists from South Korea and Japan using bio-ceramic beads to release precious minerals into the water," Lim said.
He also said that the company has plans to penetrate new markets in Southeast Asia such as Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia in the near future.
